CRITIQUE FORMS
« on: December 26, 2009, 07:36:24 AM »
Some people have asked for forums to help them critique so uh . . . here we go! These are OPTIONAL and do not have to be used.

MIXING FORM
Overall Positives: Compliment the thing a little! Try to at least say one nice thing.
Timing: Is everyone singing in unison? Is the whole song a few beats behind? Are bits and pieces a little off?
Volume: Do you hear any spikes in volume? Have the group parts been lower? Are solos scitzophrenic from one to another?
Overall Sound: Is it crisp and clear or muddled and fuzzy? Can you tell if the mixer tried to even out the mic quality? Is the reverb right?
Overall Vocals: Critique the vocals as a whole. Were people well cast or were the lyrics well split. If the mixer has requested a vocal critique, this would be the place to individually comment on every voice.
Other: Is there anything else you wanted to comment on?

Quick Use:
Code: [Select]

Timing:
Volume:
Overall Sound:

Other:

VOCAL FORM- Vocals are MUCH more subjective so there's not as much here, but I made a small guide!
Overall Positives: Like above, give a little sugar before the sour.
Pitch: Is the person struggling with the notes? Is the song in their range?
Emotion: Did the person sing this ballad with only one note? A hyper song like they are at their grandmother's funeral?
Control: Do you hear the voice dying? Notes that die or end on weird goat-like vibrator or simply spiral out of control? Is the vocalist breathing too much or not breathing at ALL?
Other: Anything else?

Quick Use:
Code: [Select]
Overall Positives:
Pitch:
Emotion:
Control:
Other:

Does anyone have anything to add to the vocal critique form, btw? I know more about mixing than I do singing so . . . that's normally what I look for with vocals but. Yes.

Maybe pronunciation? Since most of the songs are Japanese or Korean, really poor pronunciation can ruin a perfectly good performance.
