A couple of us here seem to be interested in photography and an all purpose thread for it would be neat!

I'm not the best by FAR, but I got a fancy new camera that takes such high quality pictures I almost LOOK like I know what I'm doing! So I set up a Flickr! I . . . hope that's how you link to it . . .

I really like "The Runt" and "Bob!" The first one has such an artistic, shadowy feel- I didn't even notice the leaf at first, I was juooking at the general composition. And I love the contrast of lines and colors in the cat photo <3

Liana - I really like "Three Little Boys" and some of your newer pictures you took at your father's house. (That black splotch in "Creepy Basement" could totally be mistaken for a ghost xD). Can I ask what camera you have?

Ange - I'm adding you on dA xD
"Sleeping" is absolutly adorable. And you're so lucky your going to get a DSLR *_*

Here are some of mine that I'm most proud of :D

I don't think I commented on Maimai, but I do like your stuff! For being so young, you have a really good eye *.*

I took some pictures of my friend and her husband at their super laid back wedding reception. I put them up on flickr- http://www.flickr.com/photos/39468000@N06/ I'm pretty proud of them, I NEVER get people to pose for me!

So I just looked through all the photos on here.

My favorites are "Sleeping", "Bob", "I-N-N-O-C-E-N-C-E", "The Unnamed", and "Sniffer".

Noticing a pattern?  Basically I like all the animal pictures XD

Ange - Woah, I think I accidently took you off my watch list O_e BUT I really like Summer '09 x3

Liana - Thank you so much x333 And I know what you mean by getting people to pose. It seems whenever someone notices a camera, they either shy away or the poses look fake.

I think it's neccessary to bring this up: Street photography.
In the United States, it is perfectly legal to take as many pictures of as many people as you want and they don't have to know that you took a picture of them, but only if they're in a public area and there is no expectation of privacy. This means streets, fountains, parks, but indoor shopping areas are iffy.
This law applies to everyone, regardless of age.
However, I've heard horror stories and even encountered this issue myself: Someone approaches the photographer, tells them they have no right to take a picture without permission, ect ect. This usually is the issue if there's a young child in the frame. Some, if not most parents will freak out if they see a camera (and I don't blame them). It's good to try to find the parent, introduce yourself, and ask permission first. It's not required, but I'd recommend it.
Last weekend there was a fountain I wanted to photograph. Two kids were playing in the background, and as I was turning on my camera, their mother ran over to me and instantly started over-reacting.
I was lucky: some people have called the cops on a photographer or tried to smash the camera.

Just remember this: The public areas of the United States are for everyone's use.... including photographers. You have every right to photograph people in public, even if they object.

^Really? (O.o)  That's...kinda weird.  I didn't know that, but it explains why I saw it going in a Midnight Meat Train.  The main character took pictures of some thugs and entered them in an art show, and I was like, "What if Mr. Thug doesn't want his picture in an art show?"  So yeah, now I understand XD

Then why are people's faces censored in print and on television when shown in public places? :x

I don't know about the states but pictures in Canadian newspapers/television news programs never blur faces of people in public places unless specifically asked to.
Stepping down/going on hiatus. Consider me gone unless I've spoken with you specifically regarding getting a hold of me. Love all your faces <3

Windy - I should have specified that those laws applied to taking photographs. Publishing them is different, and I haven't looked into that yet :'D But, in our local media faces are never blurred unless it's something like a court case.

That makes sense. Plus I'm sure laws differ from state to state.
