The Office / The Great Y!P Downtime
« on: March 10, 2013, 10:32:01 PM »
SUP GUYS.

As you might have noticed, trying to log into Y!P was resulting in an error 500 message for the last week or so. This is the result of one of two potential problems:

1. We were attacked by an exploit in our version of SMF software that forced the software to overwork itself and crap its pants rather than delivering a result.
2. The forum reached a size that was breaking the server to try processing.

It could be one of those issues. It could have been both. If it was problem #1, then it should be gone for good since I upgraded the software to the most recent stable release. If it was the issue of forum size, that's trickier business considering how often web spiders try to access every post in one big swoop. If we run into this problem again, I may need to start archiving older threads or otherwise pruning them somehow. This is only a potential issue that will be handled only if necessary.

For now, I'm pretty sure Y!P is operating at full capacity again. Tell your friends it's back! Throw a party on skype and sing about it! Or. You know. Whatever it is you kids do around these parts nowadays.

I'll be back under my bridge until the next time something breaks. 8D

The Office / New Y!P Forum Skin
« on: July 24, 2012, 01:02:07 AM »
Okay not gonna lie, I thought "Y!P Foreskin" halfway through titling this, so let's just get the immaturity out of the way here. PUNS. Ha.

OKAY so I've been tweaking little things about this skin on and off for like a year and I'm sure a bunch of you were spoiled for this theme in the personalization settings a while ago. BUT NOW. OFFICIALLY! This is the face of Y!P.

This is your thread to comment/complain and also to post any little bugs I've missed. This is your forum, and if I broke anything, it's you I'm messing with. So let me know here! If something's illegible or leads to a bad page, I can totally fix it.

When I wake up because it's friggin' 4 and I've been staring at pixels since like 10 and IMMA SLEEP Y'ALL. /crawls back into cave

EDIT: Things I already see need fixing:
+ The login menu is absolutely broken on the main page. Not sure why. Need to investigate.
+ These smileys don't work well against a dark background. Need to fix.
+ My avatar doesn't work at ALL. D: NEEDS WHITETEXT. /shallow
+ Broke some admin functions OOPS

Karaoke / [Sharing] Otoko Tomodachi (Rearranged)
« on: June 19, 2011, 10:13:07 AM »
HEY GUYS so I haven't posted here in forever and I don't know who most of you are and you don't know me but I'm Jko hi what's up.

I've been messing around a lot with synths and MIDIs (WHY did fan-made MIDIs fall out of fashion? :( They are such a useful guide!) and sang a little bit. And then I put it on youtube against a pile of clipart. Check it out if you're in the mood?

Karaoke / [Voc/Mix Crit] Koreaville - Gee (Traditional Mix)
« on: July 20, 2010, 09:46:21 AM »
WHAT'S UP GUYS

So like a year and a half ago, I started working on a Gee mix. And then everyone and their third cousin's brother did a Gee, and mixed it faster and better than I could. XD And then I lost interest and started to hate it, and it sat around for a while until I figured out what could be done to make it somehow different from the other bajillion Gees available. Enter Soreagroup, a coverband who performs korean pop music using traditional instruments. It gives the song a less polished, calmer feel to me, and I liked it enough to go back to that old Gee project with renewed passion. It's a shorter mix, and that kind of means I cut out half of the vocalists' solos, and for that I apologize a lot. =X I'll make it up to y'all someday!

Available on [Mp3] or [Youtube]

Solos (in order): Windy, Lulu, Kari, K
Chorus: Catanaition, Jko, Liana, Maya, and Michichan

I know you have quite a selection in choosing your Gee of choice, and I thank you for listening to this one.

Karaoke / [Voc/Mix Crit] Liza & Msaki - Okaeri
« on: June 18, 2010, 10:42:55 AM »
Trying to come out of my mixing coma by returning to Songs I Love rather than Songs I'm Doing Because I Have To. XD I owe a thousand of you vocals, but TODAY. Today, I mixed.

Download: Liza and Michikosaki - Okaeri
Lyric-splits-if-you-want-them

Liza and Michikosaki both started hovering around Y!P around the same time, and from day one I've been in LOVE with the sound that happens when you put them in a duet together. So, here they are, singing qhat might possibly be the most beautifully simple ballad ever written. They were a joy to work with, the files were a joy to mix, and honestly, I'm a sentimental sop who cries over like everything sappy ever. This is no exception.

Okaeri, sweet home.

Karaoke Discussion / Yopro Hobos - Submissions Thread
« on: May 29, 2010, 05:38:02 AM »
Hey guys! With the recent shift in Youtube activity, we've decided to branch off into different channels, with "channel yopro" hosting general community-wide events/info and a sister account taking the role of uploading projects from people unable or unwilling to host their own dubs. It shall be a home for the homeless, and as such it shall be called yoprohobos. Check it. :D

Right now, I'm uploading the backlog of things that used to be up on the yoproject channel (expect it to take a while, considering my presently sporadic internet time), but when that's done, I'm going to need some input from you! Please, if you've finished something that you want to be hosted on the Y!P channel, drop a post here linking to the completed project thread, and I'll be happy to sift through these in order, dig up videos, and sub them on your behalf. EVERYONE WINS! Just let me know what's cool to upload.

(Liana/Admin Team, I wasn't sure where this should go. Move it to an appropriate place if it doesn't belong here?)

The Office / Scheduled Forum Maintenance - February 10th 2010
« on: February 03, 2010, 10:49:10 AM »
Sup peeps<3 The forum software's outdated again, and I'm setting aside a day to work on it -- I know there's been some complaints about the database eating occasional posts/threads as well?

The short version of this is that I'm going to be working on the forum on Wednesday, February 10th (Time TBA). I'll be pulling a backup of the database on the Tuesday before, and hopefully I won't have to use it, but as always there is the risk of some data loss. Don't hate me if I accidentally wipe everything out. :3

Basically, aside from the "back up your stuff just in case dudes" warning, I also want to use this post as a place to lodge any technical concerns you've had with the forum. Have you noticed any random glitching when you try to do anything? Are there bugs you've found that I don't know about? Speak up now so I know what tutorials to look up while I dick around this week preparing. XD

The Office / YOPROJECT.NET WORKS NOW GUYS
« on: August 22, 2009, 05:06:24 PM »
Like the title says. Our old theme is back up, things should start forwarding to the .net, and while you'll always be able to access yopro through the "naked" subdomain URL you've been using, STOP MAKING FUN OF MY DAMN DOMAIN.

Please change your bookmarks or whatever. yoproject.net is online. :D

Karaoke Discussion / Karaoke singers who inspire you
« on: August 11, 2009, 05:32:51 AM »
The other thread got me thinking about why we do what we do. Sure, we all get inspired by professional vocalists and come to these communities to have little miniature versions for ourselves, but something keeps us here once we start. I don't really mean to just post a list of your friends or anything, but more like the other thread, where you acknowledge a possible stranger who may or may not care that you're listening to their stuff. xD

So, within the community, who inspires you? Who keeps you going?

For me, as a vocalist, listening to Yumiko just makes me try harder. She's the kind of person who doesn't really give too much of an idea into her creative process, and as a result, she kind of just appears as this polished, fully-formed powerhouse. She doesn't give anything before she's done putting effort in that, and that makes her feel like kind of a karaoke robot. Uh. In a good way.

Also notable for me, for almost directly opposite reasons, is Luthien. She and I have a similar range and vocal style, leaning more toward a belt than any cutesiness or operatics. And in a lot of ways, it's easy to have this lead weight kind of voice and just settle back feeling ugly. But Luthien has said "no I ain't dealing with that shit!". She's worked damn hard to be a better vocalist, and has gotten leagues better than when she hung out at Y!P years ago. She's good because she tries, and she lets you see her try, and it means you don't have to be stuck with the voice you have when you start out. I respect that.

General Discussion / Fishsticks
« on: July 25, 2009, 06:48:59 PM »
Liana and I are discussing Fishsticks right now and we decided it would be important to get Y!P involved on this.

In short, Fishsticks: Yay or nay? I will post my personal feelings on this later.

The Office / Alternate Board Languages
« on: June 11, 2009, 11:15:30 PM »
Liana likes to keep it multicultural. As such, upon her behest, I've enabled some alternative language options to help you browse the BBS (though it won't translate posts or anything). It it'll make it easier for you to quote, reply, and edit in your home language, you can set it in your profile under "account settings". So far, in addition to English, you can run Y!P in Spanish and Chinese now.

The Chinese setting runs on an encoding different from the UTF-8 that the other languages run on. Unfortunately, I can't *read* the Chinese to make sure it's running correctly. Who wants to proofread? xD

Is this helpful at all to you guys? Would it be helpful for me to add different languages? If so, what's best for you guys?

Karaoke / Sugarain - Miss Love Tantei / Otome wa Do My Best Deshou?
« on: June 01, 2009, 11:46:51 PM »
HEY THERE~! I'm trying to clean out some of the older projects that have been sitting on my HD forever. So let me tell you a little story about how long this forever has been happening.

I split lyrics for these songs in July of 2006. I shit you not, friends. K was originally going to duet it with a friend of ours who disappeared (but is still active on Youtube AND IT UPSETS ME. ;_; ) and her duet partner shifted hands a few times before Windy stepped in to help out! HI WINDY! :D
So, in short, check them out because they're SO FUCKING CUTE I died a little when I mixed them. :D

The Office / State of Y!P - May 10, 2009
« on: May 10, 2009, 06:09:12 PM »
BAD NEWS GUYS. I think there's a baby worm hanging out on Y!P from before I upgraded the software yesterday. It's apparently the root for this one random problem you guys can't see but admins can in this very specific condition.

I was given a fix to clean out the infected files from the domain, as it's a known exploitation of older versions of SMF (thus my desire to upgrade to the newest version -- I'd seen some brief weirdness in the past, and I KNOW other boards that use this software are popping up on others' virus blockers), but it involves breaking Y!P a WHOLE LOT MORE before I can un-break it. This means more downtime, for at least an hour while I make things happen. The domain as a whole might go down because it involves resetting the folder this data lives on. If I don't have to delete the folder entirely, I'll try to run it prior to 3PM Est and most of you guys who live in the US and visit after school won't notice. However, if I need to delete the files affecting the domain information, Y!P might be down for 24-48 hours, as domains are picky bitches.

There's a chance I might have to go back to the backup tables I took yesterday BUT the worm might be part of the database coding at this point, meaning Y!P might get a whole lot emptier. I can't know until I put this effort in. If the bug's still there after I reset the core files, then I might have to scrap the whole database -- accounts, posts, the whole thing. This is a last-case effort, and I'm going to do everything I can to repair the damage without having to resort to touching the database stuff. Still, it could happen.

Basically, here's the important parts of what I'm getting at:

# Yo!Project will have some downtime this coming Wednesday, May 13th.

# There may be data loss. I don't know how much. If you're posting new karaoke or new auditions during this period, please know that you might have to repost in a few days. If you can, it might be best to wait until AFTER this Wednesday's downtime to post anything important.

Sorry about this, guys.

General Discussion / A conundrum
« on: April 01, 2009, 08:45:51 PM »
Let us imagine the Disney-fied world of Mickey Mouse.

Goofy is an anthropomorphic dog, who lives in a city full of other anthropomorphic dogs, wears clothes, works a 9-5 job, lives in a house and drives a car.

Pluto, also a dog, is a pet to Mickey Mouse, sans clothing, takes walks on leashes, plays fetch, catches frisbees in his teeth, and sleeps in a doghouse next to Mickey's garage.

Think about this. Discuss.
